ABSTRACT

The most important use of the evaluation techniques in education is the improvement of teaching and learning. The present paper offers an image upon the relevant modalities (data sources and data collection techniques) which are used to obtain a valid evidence about academic performance. Course and subject design, assessment strategies, availability of resources, integration of courses and subjects within a broader program of study and many others are components of the learning environment and such are valid matters for evaluating, refining and improving. Student questionnaires, discussions groups, analysis of materials, observations are suitable methods for use in collecting feedback information. The quality of academic performance is also demonstrated by how the academic staff respond to the results of evaluation and this remains an open challenge for those who are involved in this process.
