ABSTRACT

The substantial recent data on the molecular mechanisms, on cellular modifications and other factors that influence the processes of learning and memory stimulate an effort of integration. In this paper, we respond to this challenge by trying to outline an integrative explanation which includes the cAMP cascade, as the fundamental mechanism of learning and memory, the forms of neuroplasticity and the genetic, pharmacological, behavioral and physical factors which modulate the processes of learning and memory. We review the most recent experimental research and we describe here our own theoretical models and experimental research.
