THE APPLICATIVE POTENTIAL OF REPERTORY GRID CONCERNING EXPLORATORY RESEARCH STUDIES IN EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT
ABSTRACT
Comprehensive insights on students educational needs in informational and relational terms represent a necessary first step in the educational reform. Such insights require an instrument that can fill the gap between qualitative and quantitative research techniques. The Repertory Grid Test (RGT) is a set of rating scales that permits straightforward descriptions of the way a person views the world in his or her own terms. In this study, we offer an example of RGT application and interpretation in the field of educational psychology, for analyzing the student groups significant construct systems activated when they evaluated academic tasks and their teachers academic behavior. In this exploratory study we used RGT on a sample of 40 students in psychology, at West University of Timisoara. The results show that the amount of information is one of the most frequently used constructs when they assess the academic task, while the comprehensible professor is represented as a person with pedagogical abilities and clarity of ideas.
