THE INVESTIGATION OF SUBJECTIVE AND PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING IN A SAMPLE OF TRANSYLVANIAN HUNGARIANS
ABSTRACT
In the last five decades, the number of social-economical-political changes has significantly increased worldwide. These drastic changes challenge the individualâs abilities to adapt and lead a congruous life. Consequently, in the newly formed life-conditions, the issue of a well-lived life becomes imperative. The major aim of the present paper was to investigate the specificities of subjective and psychological well-being in a sample of healthy Transylvanian Hungarian adults, depending on age, gender, and education. Our results indicate a decreasing pattern both within the subjective and the psychological well-being (except selfacceptance), with a recovery pattern in subjective well-being after the age of 56 years. We also found gender differences, with female participants attaining significantly higher levels of psychological well-being than male participants. Correlational patterns observed between subjective and psychological well-being and conscious cognitive emotion regulation strategies present specific trends, mostly regarding the use of adaptive emotion regulations strategies. Our results could be extremely useful in the tailoring prevention and intervention programs targeting the development of subjective and psychological well-being in this specific population.
